FIGHR HOLD IT’S 4TH SESSION ON GBV

The Federation of International Gender and Human Rights (FIGHR) held its 4th weekly training session on Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Splash news learnt that the training which is going to last for 12 weeks is geared towards grooming young people from different parts of the world to be Ambassadors for the eradication of Gender Based Violence world over.

Dr. Ameena Ali Founder and lead advocate, FIGHR while speaking on the topic; which centre on six (6) forms of gender based violence said GBV is being committed against its victims in the following; Domestic violence which she identified as one of the most common form of GBV that occurs at homes amongst family members or relations.

Speaking further, Dr. Ameena, noted that other forms of GBV includes; marital rape which the United Nations pronounced a crime against humanity, female gender mutilation which she said is the barbaric act of cutting off some of the female sex organ in a bid to control her sexual urge as she grows; forced marriage which has to do with giving out of females (minor) for marriage where in most cases, they are forced to marry adults old enough to be their father, rape which she defined as the unlawful and forceful carnal knowledge as well as an attempt to do so with a defenseless and subdued female, by the male.

The sixth form of GBV, she identified as sexual abuse which bothers on sexual threat and unwanted body touches on a person.

She further stated the following as other forms of sexual abuse, which includes sexual obsession, sexual aggression, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual intimidation and sexual exploitation.

All these she explained to be acts of gender based violence which are wrongs perpetuated on a gender mostly female that are regarded as the weak gender. This menace she added is what the Ambassadors who are undergoing this training are meant to curb thereby, helping in the eradication of GBV from the society.

Meanwhile, Dr Ameena Ali introduced another certification course; Cultural Diversity Inclusion and Sensitivity which she said is to train the Ambassadors to acknowledge the diverse cultures around the world and prepare them for the task ahead.
