FG Deploys Passport Intervention Team to UK to Fast-Track Applications

The Federal Government has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to clear pending applications and speed up the processing of new and renewal passports for Nigerians living in the country.

The team was dispatched by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following a directive from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the NIS, the intervention team is scheduled to arrive in the UK on Monday and will work alongside the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate passport enrolment and processing for Nigerians in the diaspora.

Team to Visit Cities Across UK

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NIS said the team would visit designated cities across the United Kingdom as part of the intervention exercise.

The exercise will cater to three categories of applicants: Nigerians with pending passport applications, first-time applicants seeking new passports and existing passport holders whose documents have less than one year remaining before expiry.

The NIS said eligible applicants seeking renewal would also be able to complete the enrolment process during the intervention.

Applicants are expected to present their completed passport application forms as well as evidence of payment during enrolment.

NIS to Release Schedule

The Immigration Service said a detailed schedule for the intervention would be released to the public.

The schedule will contain information on the cities and locations to be visited, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements for the exercise.

The NIS advised applicants not to travel to any location until the official schedule has been released.

The agency also urged Nigerians in the UK to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom for updates.

FG Targets Faster Passport Processing for Nigerians Abroad

The intervention is part of efforts by the Federal Government to improve passport services for Nigerians living outside the country and address delays affecting applicants.

For Nigerians in the UK with pending applications or passports approaching expiration, the exercise is expected to provide an opportunity to complete the necessary enrolment and processing without waiting for the usual timelines.

The NIS said further information would be communicated once the operational schedule for the intervention is finalised.

Nigerians in the United Kingdom are therefore advised to rely on official information from the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigerian High Commission and avoid unauthorised individuals or platforms claiming to have access to the intervention exercise.
