NYSC Issues Fresh Orientation Camp Guidelines, Warns Prospective Corps Members Against Night Travel
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released a new set of guidelines for prospective corps members ahead of the forthcoming orientation course, urging them to prioritise their safety and ensure all registration requirements are met before reporting to camp.
In a notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the NYSC warned prospective corps members against embarking on journeys to orientation camps at night, stressing that safety should remain a top priority.
“Prospective Corps Members are advised not to travel at night to the orientation camp,” the scheme stated.
NYSC Warns Against Registration Errors
The management also cautioned that prospective corps members whose graduation dates on their call-up letters differ from those on their Statements of Result would not be allowed to register at the orientation camp.
According to the scheme, such discrepancies must be resolved before reporting to camp.
“Prospective Corps Members with discrepancies in the date of graduation on their call-up letters and the date on their statement of results will not be registered in the orientation camp,” the statement read.
Affected candidates were advised to contact their institutions through the Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) to correct any inconsistencies before proceeding to the orientation camp.
Registration Form Must Be Signed
The NYSC further reminded prospective corps members to complete all necessary documentation before arriving at camp.
Candidates are required to print, sign, and submit their registration forms during the registration exercise at the orientation camp.
Failure to present the required documents could delay or prevent successful registration.
Procedure for Date of Birth Correction
The scheme also outlined the procedure for correcting dates of birth on the NYSC portal.
According to the guidelines, prospective corps members seeking corrections must obtain a 19- or 20-digit WAEC Verification PIN before initiating the process.
Applicants are expected to:
- Log in to their NYSC dashboard.
- Click on the “Correction of Date of Birth” link.
- Enter the WAEC Verification PIN.
- Select the appropriate WAEC examination type.
- Choose the examination year.
- Enter the examination number.
- Verify the details and submit the request.
The NYSC noted that the correction process is only available through the official portal and encouraged applicants to complete it before camp registration.
Compliance Encouraged
The scheme urged all prospective corps members to strictly comply with the new guidelines to ensure a smooth registration process and avoid unnecessary delays during the orientation exercise.
The NYSC also advised candidates to regularly monitor its official communication channels for updates on orientation camp dates, reporting procedures, and other important announcements.
Prospective corps members are encouraged to travel early, keep all required documents intact, and follow all safety guidelines while preparing for the mandatory national service programme.
